Bitter love
Chiqui Rodriguez (Filipino, b. 1976).
- This work reflects an experiment in Chiqui's work to present the exciting events in life presenting a more ambitious style to her approach.
-
This artwork emanates from the series and exhibition SUDDEN FLIGHT at the Altromondo Gallery Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences from 29 May – 18 July 2014.
The 'Sudden Flight' series explores deprivation and meditation of hard work. Her unique approach to blending acrylic pigments on canvas creates gem-like surfaces that she calls her “advection” technique in painting where it renders or moves substances of paint due to its bulk motion either via gravity or force. This iconic series features the artist's one of most enduring personal triggers that dates back to 2012 when the works were originally inspired by her encounters with Overseas Filipino Workers.
